Background on the genesis of The Blue Barrel Prototype by author, Louis Macchiaverna.
This book started out as a short story; diary fodder. I sat in the lineup one day after hearing a newsflash while driving to the beach. Looking southeast I thought, “what if that helicopter crashed right out there!”
It then became an opportunity for me to let my imagination run away while thinking of everything that elicits passion in me. Surfing was the most important thing in the world to me at one point in my life. I dedicated every day to a lifestyle that would allow me to surf, then surf longer, better, catch better waves, see more waves in more places.
But I was passionate about music too. I studied jazz. Later I
went to law school because I was passionate about justice. I married a beautiful
woman (who must have needed glasses and an hearing aide because she said yes
when I asked) and have been blessed to experience the symbiosis between passion
and love.
I am fortunate to have passionate friends too, and to have forged bonds
that have lasted for decades. There are a multitude of water brothers in my
life, always ready to share the richest, most incredible stories based on
lifetimes of sojourn to the edge of civilization in search of waves and breaks.
And of course we as a surf culture are responsible for some of the most insane
characters in history.
So, I put all of this passion and the places and people I’ve
met along the way into a story. Its called The Blue Barrel Prototype. You can
read it if you pay me money. I’ll give some of the dough to Surfrider Foundation
and some to a certain Educational Foundation in Long Island with personal
significance. And I’ll keep some of it so I can surf more and keep my house and
car and pay for my kids’ education. If I make any profit on this book, I'd like
to post the Blue Barrel sequels and some of my other writing too. We’ll see.
Thanks for checking out my website and for listening to me. Be sure you read about the story and peruse the sample chapter before leaving.
Peace.
